German artist Roland Schwarz (known universally as "Kumoki")
has been painting since the end of the seventies.
In a protected environment and with the mutability of a chameleon,
he has immersed himself in his subjects and the technical
challenges that inspired him. The male form is, has, and still
does, remain the main focus of his work. His single colour
palette emphasises the shape and form of naked bodies, and
his technique has been described as an "internet"
fusion of Peter Paul Rubens and Tom of Finland.
He strives to find the formula for eternal beauty, and the
monochrome style of his paintings serves aesthetically to
distance the viewer from the nakedness represented.
Roland Schwarz has been resident in Gran Canaria since 1997.
He has had exhibitions of his work in Norway, Spain, France
and Germany. This is his first exhibition in London.
