Jan Mattheus de Grauw was born in 1939 and lives in Rotterdam.
He graduated in 1961 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam
and in 1965 from The Academy of Pedagogy & Arts Education.
He has enjoyed numerous exhibitions and given art lectures
all over the world including the United States, Austria, France,
Greece, Portugal, Brazil, Egypt, Sweden, Gambia, the UK as
well as his home country of The Netherlands.
Due to its distinctive style, his work is part of many public
and private collections in Europe and overseas.
Jan de Grauw teaches the art of portraiture, life drawing
and painting at the Centre of Art in Barendrecht, The Netherlands.
He was host of the popular Dutch radio and television show
"Portrait Drawing and Painting" and is chairman
of the jury for the National Painting Award and the International
Pastel Biennale in Poland.
He has been receiving international commendations for his
artwork as well as his achievements in the field of art education.
In 1999 he was bestowed the title of a Knight of the Order
of Oranje Nassau (The Dutch Knighthood).
