Opening reception: Thursday, October 18, 2007, 6 - 8 PM

Wessel + O'Connor Fine Art will host an exhibit of new color work by New York photographer Aaron Cobbett in the gallery from October 18 - November 24. This will be the artist's first show with the gallery, and is timed to coincide with the US release of a new monograph from French publishing house H&O Editions. Entitled Cobbett, this 96-page volume, the artist's second, portrays Cobbett's obsessive vision of male beauty, something he has worked on for over 20 years. The show will incorporate images from the book, as well as more recent work.

Cobbett is well known for his highly stylized, extravagant portraits of celebrities, drag queens, go-go boys, and New York personalities shot for magazines such as Interview, Swindle, Vanity Fair, TETU, Vogue, Glamour, Index and Honcho. This new volume epitomizes his unique take on the male pin-up: putting the clothes back on the model, rather than taking them off. The results are images even more alluring than nakedness, which he proclaims "is for amateurs." As writer Doug McClemont has stated in the books introduction: "Cobbett's premeditated voyeurism coupled with the model's generous poses make the viewers privy to something arguably more intimate than nudity."

Aaron Cobbett went to NYU and began his career dressing windows for Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman. His first monograph, Super Eros, was published in Germany by Bruno GmOnder Verlag in 1999. Celebrities who have sat for him include Lance Bass, Nellie Furtado, Helen Gurley Brown, John Waters, Linda Blair, Elvira, Heather Graham, and Alan Cumming. He lives and works in New York City.
