Rick Castro & his black cat - Pyewackett (RIP).
A Los Angeles native, Rick Castro, has created and
promoted fetish as art
through photography, fashion, writing & lifestyle all of his adult
life.
Beginning back in the late '70s creating costumes for
Bette Midler, Toni Basil, & Tina Turner, thru the '80s as a fashion
stylist for photographers Herb Ritts, George Hurrell and Joel-Peter
Witkin.
Since the late '80s till now, Rick creates photographs
depicting fetish, bondage and all the glory of kink. Rick's two books
CASTRO (1990) and 13 YEARS OF BONDAGE (2004) document
this exploration. Moving to film Rick co~directed & wrote the fetish
classic HUSTLER WHITE (1996) with Bruce LaBruce, and directed
an MTV documentary about the 21st century fetish to come from the internet
PLUSHIES & FURRIES (2001) produced by World of Wonder.
For the last seven years Rick curates art as fetish ~
fetish as art ~ at his gallery in Hollywood called Antebellum. Rick
has introduced new artists from around the world and is the most influential
person bringing fetish to the mainstream.
Antebellum, the only fetish art gallery in America, and perhaps
the world, continues it's tradition of bringing fetish to the
mainstream.
About the gallery:
Antebellum Gallery is located in the heart of
downtown Hollywood. The term antebellum is Latin for "before
war". While it commonly refers to a more romantic Gone
With the Wind era, we find ourselves again today with American
culture at odds with political / religious / social agendas that
threaten to blow the lid off its foundations at any given moment.
Steeped in Victorian nuances with a salon style, Antebellum is
intended as a hybrid of artistic, cultural, and political iconoclasm.
