The Tom of Finland Foundation sponsored its 4th “Emerging Erotic Artist Contest” in 1999. This biennial event is a chance for new artists to bring their special talents to the forefront, to introduce themselves to the world, and possibly win some cash prizes.

This year's competition brought some of the best and brightest artists to the attention of the Foundation and the erotic art world, drawing 126 entries from the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, Israel, and Portugal. The judging also had an international flavor, with a panel consisting of Avenue Services in Seattle, Professor Bill Paul from Atlanta, Matt Pawlowski out of San Francisco, Kelly McCray hailing from Toronto and last, but certainly not least, Susanna Luoto from Finland. The judges were asked to award prizes in four categories: Single Figure, Multiple Figure, Fantasy/Fetish, and Photography. Looking at all the entries, this could not have been an easy task, but the results are reproduced here for all to see.

The 1999 “Emerging Erotic Artist Contest” is history now, but from the quality of the entries, it looks as if some new artists are on their way to making history.
