Getting a good likeness from her models is not one
of Carolyn’s priorities. Getting a gesture that best represents
the model’s inner feeling, is. In fact, it is quite rare to
see faces in these works, for Carolyn is much more concerned with
the vibration of the figure.
Carolyn Weltman works out the composition with charcoal,
paper and gesso. Of late, Weltman is less concerned with her
computer drawings, and the unique prints that she renders,
than putting it all on with paint. Working with layers of
oil and gesso on 300# rag paper, she works the surface into
a frenzy of texture, color and defined areas of flesh in an
expressionist style. Her flowing lines are superb and captivating,
hinting at the model’s place within the muted backgrounds.
Carolyn Weltman has consistently sold her work at auction
for the New York Academy of Art through both Christies and
Sothebys over the last 7 years. |
