ABOUT THE ARTISTS...
Jeff Palmer: Idealized black and white photography
of the male nude. Proceeds from the sale of Palmer's calendars in
the last ten years have contributed over a half million dollars
to AIDS organizations worldwide. In 2007, phd gallery hosted BODY/
BUILDING which paired Palmer's male nudes with architectural abstracts.
Joe Chesla: Beauty. Craftsmanship. Simplicity.
The art work of internationally exhibited St. Louis Community College
Meramec Art Professor, Joe Chesla, reveals the hidden beauty of
natural order and organic process. His "rust prints" are
a collaboration between artist and nature. In 2007, phd gallery
hosted CONFLUENCE, a solo exhibit by Joe Chesla.
Leslie Holt: Painting which demonstrates the intersection
of art, personal experience, and community. Holt is a Washington
University graduate and teaches at Fontbonne University and St.
Louis Community College. In May, 2008, Holt's solo exhibit HELLO
MASTERPIECE will be featured at phd gallery.
David Lancaster: Oil painting on studded aluminum.
Enter the peculiar but highly structured milieu of artist and Washington
University graduate David Lancaster whose worldview is governed
by the Canon of Planetarianism, a religion that may or may not exist.
Lin Xu: Ceramics which establish an invisible connection
between objects and personal experience. Professor of Fine Arts
at Canada's Brandon University, Lin Xu uses clay in a sculptural
form to express her personal artistic knowledge and experiences.
The Mongolian born Xu focuses on small-scale sculpture, exploring
the soft qualities of clay.
Metra Mitchell: Painting where space is a playground
for form. Mitchell holds an MA from Fontbonne University and expects
to complete her MFA in 2008. She was the visiting artist for Lindenwood
University, facilitating the on-site drawing workshops at the St.
Louis Science Center Bodyworlds 3 exhibit.
Ken Konchel: Award winning black and white architectural
photography. Transcending formal building portraiture, Ken Konchel's
photography highlights the diverse characteristics of buildings
and their relationship to one another. In 2007, phd gallery hosted
BODY/ BUILDING which paired Konchel's architectural abstracts with
male nudes.
Rebecca Eilering: Playful painting on maps. Eilering
received her MFA from Ohio State University and currently teaches
at St. Charles Community College. Her work is the result of intuitive
exploration of place and directionas it relates to her travels.
In 2007, phd gallery hosted LOST & FOUND, a solo exhibit by
Rebecca Eilering.
Stan Trampe: Sensual black and white photography
of the female nude. Though primarily self taught, Trampe studied
under Ken Marcus and Jerry Uelsmann and was eventually tapped by
Amherst publications to author Black and White Nude Photography.
In June, 2008 he will be paired with Jeff Palmer in PERFECT EXPOSURE,
hosted by phd gallery.
Wallace/ Trawick: Collaborative vintage collage.
David Wallace and Rebecca Trawick are each consummate painters,
illustrators, and designers. Together they were featured in HAND
to HAND, A Coast to Coast Collage Project by Two Artists Who Never
Met Each Other, hosted by phd gallery in 2007.
