Antebellum, known as the only fetish
art gallery in the USA, (perhaps the world), continues its assault
on the mundane with Splatter, the first art exhibition
to explore the passions & obsessions of images of chaos, blood
lust, and things that go bump in the night.
Throughout history, the most famous people have been presidents,
actors and- murderers! Sexuality and death are also historically
linked and romanticized.
The greatest stories ever told are about tragedy and murder - Macbeth,
Gilles De Rais, Jack the Ripper, Bluebeard, Sweeney Todd, the Mason
family, the list is endless.
French surrealist writer Georges Bataille once wrote each orgasm
is like a little death. American writer Truman Capote created his
career from a novel about serial killers: In Cold Bood.
Iconic film director Alfred Hitchcock explored the relation between
sex and death throughout his entire body of work.
Why are we drawn to murder? What does it say about society obsessed
with love, sex, death & violence?
