A vivid exploration of erotic fetishism from the masters of Japanese gay art. More than 150 art works will be exhibited by well known 60 Japanese artists. The exhibition will also feature a collection of rare works from the vaults of Barazoku magazine, offering a retrospective of Japanese gay art.

The exhihibition includes artists:

Hideki Koh (Born 1951) In 1998, Hideki Koh began to draw pictures focusing on young men, and worked on front covers for the magazine Barazoku from 1999 to 2002. He had his first solo exhibition in 2000 and has since emerged from the gay underground art scene to gain much attention in the general art scene, leading, in recent years, to his works being featured in a number of Japanese art magazines. Koh has an ever growing fan base and as there are many collectors and overseas galleries offering to host exhibitions and sell his works, the range of his work is expanding.

Gengoroh Tagame (Born 1964) Gengoroh Tagame is a gay manga artist, erotic artist and a leader of the Japanese gay art movement. He completed a graphic design course at Tama Art University and after experience as an art director and a graphic designer; he started a serialization of gay manga and novels in the magazine Sabu. He is a gay art specialist and has publicly come out as gay, something that’s quite rare in Japan. In recent years, he has energetically engaged in collecting resources and depicting the history of Japanese gay erotic art that has emerged since the end of the 1950s. His artworks have a great reputation in Japan and abroad. Foreign language versions of his works have also been published by French publishers.

Jiraiya (Born 1967) Jiraiya is an artist and illustrator who perfectly represents Japan’s gay scene. Because he has a principal profession other than his artwork he introduces himself as an office worker and an artist, or a part time artist in the afterward of the collected short stories he has illustrated. He started exhibiting illustrations called otokoe in the magazine G-men from 1998, and has since debuted as a gay manga artist. As well as drawing manga he has also worked on front cover illustrations for G-men from 2001 to July 2006. He had been attracting attention from abroad, and a collection of his illustrations has been published in France. His works have been very well received in Europe and the continued publication of his works is expected.
